Shree Baladevjew Temple is the glory of the ancient holy places of piligrimage named Tulasi Kshetra. There are four Kshetras in Odisha Namely, (i) Gadaa Kshetra, (ii) Sankha Kshetra, (iii) Chakra Kshetra, and (iv) Padma Kshetra. Shree Kshetra or Shree Jagannath Dhama, Puri is known as Sankha Kshetra, Shree Lingaraj Kshetra of Bhubaneswar is known as ChakraKshetra, Surya Kshetra of Konarak is known as Padma Kshetra and Shree Baladev Kshetra of Kendrapara is known as Gadaa Kshetra or Gupta Kshetra or Tulasi Kshetra.
In Puranas it is also recognized a Brahma Kshetra and it is found its name in an authentic script here name Brahma Tantra commented by the great Muni Shree Byasa Dev nearly two thousand years back.

In Dwapara Yuga during the Mahabharat great was Shree Balaram Elder brother of Shree Krisna did not join the war but set out on Pilgrimage after killing his son Ugrasraba in the Garb of Brahmin. After visiting the Shree Kshetra Puri and Chakra Kshetra Bhubaneswar, Shree Balaram started for taking bath in sacred river Chiptrotpala near Kendrapara and in Baitarani near Jajpur. While he was at Jajpur near Bsaitarani river, he was intimated by The Brahmins as to the oppressions of the demon Kandara who lived there at the Lalit Hills (Boundary of Kendrapara & Jajpur). In order to save the Brahmins Shree Balaram fought with the demon Kandara. Being defeated, while Kandara was running away Shree Balaram Chased and pounced upon him at Pavagambar hills of Charilangala, facing towards west for the first time. Till now the foot prints of Shree Baladev is in exitence there. The place where, for the second time Kandara fell down and was killed by Shree Balaram is known as Kandarapati, or Kandarpadi or Kandrapada.
Shree Baladev cut the body of the demon into four pieces and threw them to four directions. The place where the Madhya Khanda (middle portion) fell, is known as Madhyakhandi. The place where the Kamara (waist) fell, is known as Kamarkhandi. The place where Shira (head) of the demon fell, is known as Asurasira or Asureswar. The place where the Navi (Navel) fell, is known as Navi Khanda or Nahakhanda or Lahakhanda.
